How to use System Builder
Build and backtest a horse racing system with realtime.tips. Learn the filters, check historical results and find today’s qualifying runners.
How it works
1. Choose a starting point
Open a system from the list, or select Free tips or an Advanced model and press Create system. Edit its rules to choose a course and race type.
2. Apply your rules
Choose the angles and filters you want, then press Apply rules. Editing a filter does not change the results until you apply it.
3. Read the outcomes
Check the historical results for those rules, then select Show today’s qualifiers to see the runners that match. A system can have no qualifiers on a particular day.
Criteria explained
Each card below explains one criterion. If you tick more than one, the runner must satisfy every selected criterion to remain in the list.
Best win ratio for trainer
Keeps runners trained by the yard with the highest overall win strike-rate in the race.
Best win ratio for jockey
Keeps runners ridden by the jockey with the highest overall win strike-rate in the race.
Best trainer course win ratio
Looks for the trainer with the highest win record at this course.
Best jockey course win ratio
Looks for the jockey with the highest win record at this course.
Best recent trainer win ratio
Highlights the trainer with the highest recent winning form.
Best recent jockey win ratio
Highlights the jockey with the highest recent winning form.
Predicted winner (1 per race)
Keeps the model's top-ranked runner in each race, so this usually returns one selection per race.
Predicted placer
Keeps runners the model expects to finish in the places.
Won in this class
Keeps runners that have already won in today's race class before.
Placed in this class
Keeps runners that have already placed in today's race class before.
Won off this mark before
Keeps runners that have already won off today's official rating before.
Won at course
Keeps runners that have already won at this course.
Won at distance
Keeps runners that have already won over this distance.
Won at course and distance
Keeps runners that have already won over this course and distance.
Fast course win
Keeps runners with a previous course win recorded in a fast time.
Fast distance win
Keeps runners with a previous distance win recorded in a fast time.
Fast course and distance win
Keeps runners with a previous course-and-distance win recorded in a fast time.
Dropped in weights since LTO
Keeps runners whose current official rating is lower than it was last time out.
Won on same going
Keeps runners that have won on today's going before.
Won with same trainer
Keeps runners that have won with the same trainer before.
Won with same jockey
Keeps runners that have won with the same jockey before.
Placed on same going
Keeps runners that have placed on today's going before.
Placed with same trainer
Keeps runners that have placed with the same trainer before.
Placed with same jockey
Keeps runners that have placed with the same jockey before.
Jockey stronger at course
Highlights jockeys whose record at this course is stronger than their usual baseline.
Trainer stronger at course
Highlights trainers whose record at this course is stronger than their usual baseline.
Jockey stronger recently
Highlights jockeys whose recent form is stronger than their longer-term baseline.
Trainer stronger recently
Highlights trainers whose recent form is stronger than their longer-term baseline.
No LLM picked it
Keeps runners in races where at least one LLM model made a pick, when none of the LLM models picked that horse. Members only.
Filters and ranking
After the criteria stage, these controls help you shape the final list into the exact tipster view you want.
Race type
Filters the shortlist by race code so you can focus on the types of races you actually want to study.
Race class
Uses class thresholds, so you can keep only Class 1 races or broaden the view to Class 2 and above, Class 3 and above, and so on.
Race value
Sets a minimum race-value threshold using the race's published prize or added-money level, so selecting 20k and over keeps only races worth 20k or more.
Runners
Sets a maximum field-size threshold, so selecting 10 or under keeps only races with 10 runners or fewer.
Official rating (OR)
Uses the horse's current official rating to keep the shortlist inside the ability range you want to review.
OR move
Filters by whether the horse's official rating is lower, the same, or higher than it was last time out.
Starting price
Groups qualifiers into broad price ranges so you can stay inside the odds range that suits your betting style.
Show
Lets you switch between all qualifiers, favourites only, or runners that are not market favourites.
Value
Shows either every qualifier or only runners whose current odds look bigger than the model's assessed fair price.
Min edge
Sets the minimum value edge a runner needs before it counts as a value qualifier.
Max picks per day
Caps the daily shortlist. Leave it on All to keep every qualifier, or choose a top number to keep only the highest-ranked runners each day.
By
When Max picks per day is active, this chooses the ranking metric used to decide which runners make the shortlist.
Results list
Today’s qualifiers are the runners that match your applied rules. Use their race links to inspect the cards, prices and results.
Time and course
Each row tells you when and where the qualifier runs, with the race link taking you straight to the card.
Selection
The horse that matches all of your chosen criteria and filters.
Prediction, confidence, and odds
Use the model output together with current odds to decide whether your custom tipster shortlist makes sense.
Race information
Use the race link to inspect the card, including the race class, official rating and the other runners.
Status
Once results are available, the row updates to show whether the selection won, placed, or lost.
Summary panel and chart
The history panel shows how your current rules performed over the selected date range.
History ranges
Use 1M for the past 30 days or 1Y for the past 12 months. Read the dates shown with the results to see the period covered by the available data.
Summary cards
The selection count, winners, win rate, SP LSP and BSP LSP describe the historical results for your current rules. Read profit together with the number of settled selections and the date range.
Cards vs graph
Cards give you the headline numbers. Graph turns the same history into a period-by-period view.
What the chart shows
The graph shows how the historical results vary over time. Compare periods rather than judging a system only by its total profit.
Export and copy
Open Export to copy the historical results. On desktop, CSV and XLSX downloads are also available.
How to judge a backtest
Backtests apply rules to past results; they are not tips published at the time. Repeatedly changing filters after seeing the profit can make a small sample look stronger than it is.
Level-stakes profit (LSP) uses an equal stake on each selection. SP LSP uses starting prices; BSP LSP uses Betfair Starting Prices. Compare the price basis, settled selection count and dates before comparing systems.
